Give Thanks
Give Thanks
This week we are celebrating Thanksgiving. Many people have various traditions that they have to celebrate this holiday. What do you do to show your thanks for everything you have experienced this year? Has your year been a year for which you are thankful? Maybe not? Has there been too many breakdowns and not enough loads to get you through? Has there been a medical scare that set you back or forced you out of trucking completely? Is there a way to still be thankful for even the unplanned events of life?
Our family has traditions; however, this year some of our traditions will be new to us. First, we usually come home before Thanksgiving so that Dave can go deer hunting the opening weekend. He goes with the same people and to the same place that he has done for many years. Next, we go to church with hearts of thanksgiving for all that we have been given and experienced throughout the year. Finally, there is a traditional turkey dinner with family. This final tradition is the one that will change for us this year. In years past, we would get together at my brother's house along with other immediate family members. As we age it is not as easy for some to make the trip. This year we have all agreed to meet my sister and her family at a restaurant near her so that all of us siblings can be together. Will this become a new tradition? Who knows? For now, I am enjoying not having to do any cooking! After dinner we usually play card games and watch football. I am not sure what that will look like this year but I do know we will figure it out.
How can we be thankful when this year seems to have more challenges than in years past? I look at how things have gone this year. Early in the year, we had a health scare. We are thankful because we had enough in savings to cover the added down time as well as realizing that the health scare was not nearly as serious as it could have been. Time and time again we have seen how a cancelled load was a blessing rather than a disappointment. How? In many cases, had we done the load that cancelled we would have traveled through dangerous weather that could have left us stranded or even worse. There are so many reasons to be thankful even in what seems to be the worst of times. We are blessed.
I would like to take this time to thank everyone in our circle of family and friends, both trucking and non-trucking, who have supported us with their prayers and solid advice as we continue to navigate both our personal and professional lives. We appreciate each and every one of you! We love you all too!
Wishing you millions of safe, profitable and THANKFUL miles.
